She's Got The Power

Scrapping, like all things, means sometimes you have good days and make layout after layout that you love, but other days it all just goes a little haywire and you end up with pages that you are..... well lets just say... less than satisfied with :-)

I think this page just got a little bit crazy and became way too busy. I once heard the term "product vomit" to describe a page where the creator was obviously motivated by trying to get as much product as possible onto a layout rather than focusing on the photos, or story, or art. And that's probably how I would describe this page! LOL!

However, that's not what actually happened. It was more a case of having so many fabulous products in the Studio Calico kit I was working with that I didn't know where to start. And then along the way I wasn't entirely happy with how the page was looking, so I kept trying to add more to fix it. Stopping would have been a better idea! Probably if I took off all that washi tape for a start that would be good.

And actually, I definitely was focused on telling the story as the main motivator behind this layout. The title is quoted from what I overheard Munchy telling Moodles after she prayed for Munchy's knee and it was healed! I wrote down the whole story in detail and tucked it into the Smash plastic bag along with one of my leftover feathers I made a while ago.

I don't believe scrapping is just about making perfect layouts. In fact, as far as the creative process goes, I think it's just as important to make 'mistakes' (if you want to call them that at all). But for me, my scrapping will always be about telling the story. The idea that I shouldn't share this page because it looks less than perfect sounds crazy to me. In fact, it's only inspired me to go and create more. See you around :-)

Sharing the love.... (winner announcement)

You know how I keep sharing all these boy layouts I've been making of my cute little nephew? Well perhaps you guessed what I was up to?

Some of it was about extending myself creatively and not just doing girly layouts all the time. It's been really fun putting together these masculine colour schemes and using different embellishments rather than the ones I reach for time and time again.

But the other part of the joy was knowing that secretly all this time I've been compiling a whole scrapbook album full of layouts to give to my sister and nephew as a gift! You see, when both of my girls turned one my sister gave them a photo book to commemorate. This was my version in return.

And just recently we celebrated his birthday so I presented my not-quite-complete-album to her. It was such a pleasure to watch her examine each page in turn and discover little details about them. What joy there is in giving! And speaking of which... it's time to announce the winner of my recent giveaway. Drumroll please.........

Through the boring (but practical) method of random.org the winner is...

Leah, please email me (nat@elphie.com) your postal address and I'll try and get your RAK to you as soon as I can.

I'm over the moon excited....

by the new releases from Flourish With a Bling that I got to play with!!!

They're called Elise flourishes and each packet contains the gorgeous rhinestone flourishes we're familiar with, plus spare rhinestone and now the extra special addition of ...... flowers!!!! EeeekkK! What a stunning combination hey?

As with all the FWAB products they're very easy to customise. So on my first layout with the new product I  cut up and used part of the flourish and added one of the gorgeous dusty pink flowers to a rhinestone star that had broken off one of Munchy's toys. Voila! An instant unique embellishment that was perfect for my princess layout.

Can you read Munchy's journalling on this page? It says .....
"I am a Prissis (princess). I will be a Sleeping Bootee (Beauty)!!!"
Hheeee hee! So cute. And with her drawing of herself as a princess standing in front of a castle I knew that this was going to be one of those pieces of art I keep for my scrapping purposes ;-)

I tell you, the hardest part of this layout was choosing which one of the new Elise flourishes I was going to use. Each of the 5 new colours are just fabulous. Check them all out below..

PS. And don't forget about my giveaway which is open for another 2 days

The Promised Giveaway!

PPPhhhheww! It's been a long week and it's not even finished yet :-) I'm so ready for the weekend.

In the meantime I've managed to sneak into my scrap-room and pull together a RAK that I'm so excited to give away to one lucky winner. This is all about celebrating my new blog look (still a bit of a work in progress... but I'm soooo happy about it even so!) and to thank you all for your constant support.

I know I don't do enough to show my appreciation as I'm consistently running low on time to respond to you all, but believe me when I say I read every comment and I count myself very blessed to have such wonderful blogging buddies.

I'm also quickly sharing a couple of cards which haven't yet made it up onto the blog. Now seems like a good time?

Simple cards, not ground-breaking (although this second one is a little technique-y) but hey - that's just how I relax when I've got the time. And they'll certainly do when I'm in a pinch and need something in a hurry for an event.

In fact, between making these and sharing them with you today I'm pretty sure I've already given them away! Mental note.... make more cards :-)

Now here's the deal on how to win the RAK pictured above. Just leave a comment. That's it. No need to re-post, Twitter, Facebook, whatever. No need to become a follower (although it might make it easier for you to come back and check whether you've won?) Just leave a comment. And I won't forget to include all the comments on my first New Blog posting either. So you can leave another comment there if you're keen for a second chance?

I'll draw a winner next Wednesday. Good luck :-)

Every Day

Now I don't want you to think I've forgotten about the giveaway I promised... believe me it's coming...! Just waiting to actually be home in daylight hours so I can put together a fabulous prize for you all :-)

But in the meantime I couldn't wait to share this latest layout I did which is for the Pages of My Book challenge. Mainly because the competition finishes on the 20th so I knew I better hurry up and get it done!

The challenge word is "Daily" and there's a lovely Japanese poem to inspire you as well. At least, I'm sure it's lovely. Google translate didn't do such a good job so I'm pretty sure I haven't grasped it's meaning at all ;-) But I think the gist of it was about celebrating the every day moments that make life amazing, even in the midst of daily routine and business. Well I certainly get that.

Where I sit at my scrap desk I can look out the window at the kids playing outside, and one day I got such a shock to see Munchy deciding she would bring the clothes in off the line all by herself. All of her own volition. She saw it was getting dark and the job needed doing so she did it! My kids amaze me constantly.

Lots of recent favourite products on this page, like those Candi dots I told you about last time. And that gorgeous FWAB Jasmine flourish was only enhanced by some matching Mango pearls. I wanted it to seem like the photo continued onto the page with the extension of those sunrays and bokeh flairs.
I took my colour inspiration from our current challenge at Flourish With a Bling. Such a bright and happy combo, it was perfect for this cheery page. Now that challenge is open until the end of the month so there's still plenty of time for you to enter. One lucky winner will walk away with a load of FWAB goodies so it's definitely worth your time. (And just to give you some inside info..... we haven't had many entries this month so the odds are in your favour. Wink wink!!)
