The Story of My Angel

As you know, I firmly believe in adding journaling to all my pages. I believe in capturing the stories, the events, the emotions, the quotes, and well basically... the whole experience on my pages. But I don't think I've ever included SO MUCH TEXT on a layout before this one...!

It came about as an idea inspired by this month's Scrap Friends sketch challenge. You see, I love Angela's sketch (I always do!) but I just didn't have a big photo to scrap so I had to think of something else to fill all that space ;-)

I contemplated some kid-art or a photo collage, but in the end settled with this idea of making the focus on the written word. (You can see what other ideas the rest of the DT came up with over here) And I've had this story going around in my head waiting to get down on paper for a long time now.

It's in the form of a letter written back and forth between myself and an patient. It's a long story (obviously!!!) but as a thank-you gift to me for helping her through her pregnancy and birth she gave me this precious glass angel as a Christmas present. Despite doing the work I do, I don't get as many thanks as you might think, and nor do I expect to... after all, I'm just doing my job.

But I have to say that when I received this gift with it's note of thanks attached it really touched my heart. It's certainly always nice to be appreciated, but it was more than that. This woman went on in some detail about how I had made a real difference in her (and her husband's) life during that experience and how disappointed she is that I won't be around for her next pregnancy. Man.... I broke down in tears then and there! You see, I try to constantly remind myself that whilst I might go to the hospital day after day and deliver babies for my job, that usually those moments are actually pretty life-changing for most women. So I remind myself to be patient, to be kind, to be gentle, to be generous with my time etc etc. And to be told that at least some of the time it actually works is really comforting.

Meanwhile, on a lighter note (!!)..... this is the grand green prize that's on offer if you take part in the Scrap Friends challenge this month. Check out all the details here. I really hope you join in with us :-)

All my love
