B is for Boy

One of the things I love best of all about the Jenni Bowlin kits is that their versatility. It's just as easy to put together a 'boy' layout as it is to make a 'girly' one.


Which is just great for me because every now and then I like to get out of my normal style I use to constantly scrap my girls, and stretch my creative muscle to make a boy layout too. Especially 'cos my sister has a cute little son with plenty of perfect photos which I may have 'borrowed' ;-)


The May JBS Mini-Kit included a fabulously matched mixture of Echo Park This and That with the graphic prints of their own Magpie collection. I played around with different background papers for this layout but kept going back to these spunky trucks.


The warm autumnal colours were a great compliment to the theme of this layout which is of course all about loving the little boys in our lives. I sprinkled around the Maya Road kraft labels and used them to ground my embellishments and descriptive words.


And even if it's a boy layout - doens't mean I can't use butterflies surely?

I love what I do

My next JBS layout came about through inspiration from this poster on Pinterest. I loved the symmetry through reflection, and copied that idea straight onto my layout :-)


Thank goodness for my Silhouette which made the job of cutting my title a very simple matter of merely chosing which fonts I wanted.


I focused on all the bright happy colours of the Bella Bvd products from the Mini-Album kit. They matched the blue of my scrubs and the pink of the surgical soap in my photos. Yes, I know - another work related layout. Sorry about that! But it obviously makes up a huge amount of my day to day life so I've got plenty to say about it ;-)


My job can be pretty difficult at times. Angry patients, long hours, unpaid overtime, high stress environments, time away from my family. But it's also highly satisfying and rewarding. What a privilege to help bring a baby into the world and to share that life-changing moment with a family. I do love what I do.... and I know there's no other job in the world I would rather be doing.

Each and Every New Day

I just realised how helplessly behind I am on sharing my recent creativeness with the May kits from Jenni Bowlin Mercantile. Especially since I spy the new June sneaks up on the blog!


So lets me start by sharing this layout I made predominantly with the new Dime Store Quarterly kit. The pinks and greens are so fresh and pretty. But they mixed perfectly well with the other kit goodies too, such as a touch of the Echo Park This and My Mind's Eye (love it!)


This page, and another of the cards I made with the kits made it into the JBS Gazette which is just jam packed with inspiration this month. It might be late, but it's still definitely worth checking out!


The story behind this layout is about how much you gain an appreciation for each new day when you're working night duty!! A sunrise is always amazing, but there's so much more relief and anticipation when you've worked the long lonely hours through the night; when you see that sun come over the horizon of the hospital grounds (which is what this photo is) you know the end is in sight!

You Tube, Me Tube

My girls are constantly drawing pictures - that's just the type of girls they are. And as much as I want to keep all these, there's no way I can file away the hundreds of drawings they come up with.


And I guess they get that from me, 'cos I too am coming up with hundreds (?) of layouts. So that's when I came up with the idea of including them INTO my layouts as much as possible. It's like killing two birds with one stone! And I get to capture the essence of this time in our lives even better.


I've had to put my mind to thinking up different ways to incorporate the two forms so they blend seamlessly together. 'Cos I don't really want all my pages looking the same either. The method I used here was to try and re-create Munchy's drawing on my own background by painting a continuation of her rainbow.


So that's my introduction for my very first VIDEO!! Eeeeekkkkk! I was so nervous doing this (and you can totally tell!) but I think it gets better as it goes along. And ultimately I had a lot of fun putting this together.


I used this as my monthly tutorial at Scrap Friends. Which means I'll be doing another one next month! I would love to hear what you think. Things you liked? Suggestions on what I could do better? Would you be interested in seeing more videos, or do you prefer to stick to photo-based tutorials?

Crazy Little Monkey

That's a common saying in our house I have to admit.


Especially when it comes to our Little Moodles. She is such a crazy little monkey at times. Like, I'm not sure what possessed her to immediately want to lift up her dress and stick her tongue out when she saw herself in the mirror. In the middle of a shop!

 

I'm pretty sure she didn't get that from me. Although..... I guess I'm silently encouraging her by automatically stopping to snap a picture of these crazy antics ;-)


I wanted lots of fun colours for this layout so I went with my February Studio Calico kit and I painted my own title. I followed a super-cool tutorial from Julia Stainton for the folded chevron technique - except used mine upside down to allow the rough edges and flaps to show. I like it better this way :-)


Probably because it represents my subject perfectly! I just love my crazy little monkey Moo!!
