Jot Magazine November Mood Board Challenge

It's time for another Mood Board challenge at Jot Magazine and this one couldn't be any more perfectly catered for me than if I'd designed it myself! It's all pinks and yellows!! Firstly, let me show you the card I whipped up for it...

See what mean?
Here's what the stunning Mood Board looks like...

With so many products in my stash in these colours the hardest choice I had to make was deciding what to use. It's possible I may have overdone it slightly ;-)
I whittled down my choices to just two collections - Pink Fresh Studio Happy Things and Elle's Studio Thankful. Both have some really fun embellishments in the right colours, and so I picked some out and simply layered them up!

If you'd like to play along with the challenge this month and be in the running for a great prize from our generous sponsor then you can check out the Mood Board challenge details here.

And whilst you're over at Jot then make sure you also check out the FREE Mini Mag that was just released over the weekend. It's a special edition magazine featuring lots of different projects made with Heidi Swapp goodies. Heidi has long been an avid supporter of us at Jot and we felt that with the difficult times her family have been suffering through lately we could show a little bit of love right back at her in the way we know how to best..... by making pretty stuff!!

You can find the Mini Mag here.

Bethany's July page

July - smack bang in the middle of winter. Winter is definitely not my favourite time of year, and I guess that's why I subconsciously steered in the exact opposite direction when it came to putting together Bethany's page for July.

It helps that it doesn't snow, we do indoor swimming lessons and go outside when it's sunny so my photos tend to look more summery anyway.

My title card is made with a bunch of Heidi Swapp products (except for the thickers) that I was lucky enough to receive in a box of goodies sent to us Jot Girls for some articles being featured in the next issue of Jot Magazine. I'm loving the 'document' die and the envelope that I'll be able to tuck some memorabilia in too.

Most of my other ready-made cards and embellishments come from the Studio Calico Fairground PL Kit. It's full of my favourite colours and I guess it probably contributes to the bright cheeriness of this page because it's a summer kit for all those lucky Northern Hemispherians ;-)

The sun card though is one I made myself. Well, maybe that's a bit of a stretch to claim that. Digging out some old baby books for Judah from their storage box I came across one which had lost half it's pages. Not much good I thought, so I went to put it in the recycling. Then it occured to me that the remaining pages might make cute PL cards so I chopped them up instead! I recently invested in the 2x3" and 4x6" Becky Higgins journal card dies, and they've already come in handy multiple times. It allows me to position the picture exactly where I want it on the card whilst ensuring the right size card with the same rounded corners as the others.

Strangely for me I haven't managed to include any original kid-art on this spread. Perhaps it's because Bethany's creativity tends to be more directed towards writing these days rather than drawing, and that's a little less visually appealing. No less important though, so perhaps that's what I pop in the Heidi Swapp envelope.

Great. Now that's decided I better go do it before I forget ;-)
Enjoy your weekend.

The Story of the Super Happy Fun album

Although I still consider myself a country girl (despite living in Melbourne for say um…. 14 years now!) there are definitely perks to living where I do. Like when in March both Amy Tan and Heidi Swapp came to my local Spotlight store within a few days of each other! They both taught different classes, but unfortunately I didn't have a chance to actually 'do' Amy's for various reasons. But today I'm going to share the quick little mini-album we made during Heidi's visit.

We really only put together the foundation of the pages during the class. I did not go prepared with photos in hand! All these little extra bits were added when I got home. But because of the nature of her products, this was soooo quick to assemble - especially when you've got the expert guiding you through each step of it!

Loved the combination of transparencies, envelopes, tags and memorydex cards as the different pages within it. The eclectic look always reminds me of what scrapbooking is all about - accumulating a hodge-podge of photos and memorabilia and then trying to present it in some logical order. Maybe that says more about my scrapping style than it should ;-)

Yeah so I turned it into an "I love Spring" memoir!

With just a touch of Summer as well.

The promo tour was certainly effective. I can honestly say I've fallen in love with the Wanderlust collection now, and especially how well it mixes with her previous collection September Skies (which is what I've done here). Be prepared to see more Heidi around these parts!

Camelot Reveal

If ever there was a kit designed with someone like me in mind... then it's got to be the new Camelot Kit from Studio Calico! By 'someone like me' I mean a girly scrapper, a mother, a soft and pastel colour lover, a curly font admirer, a touch of gold needer, all with a good dash of arty mixed-media thrown in too!!

Due to popular demand, I've managed to make another video of me opening up all my kits again this month. You can also see all my other videos right here on my YouTube channel....!!

But in the meantime, here it is also in pictoral form ....

With that amazing star mask in my hand I set to and created my first layout...
Actually, if I'm going to be completely honest (and I always am!) then I'll admit this was my second attempt with the mask. My first attempt with texture paste on the vanilla cardstock didn't quite go according to plan. So I needed to change it up. I've learned from past experience that spraying the Opaque White Mister Hueys onto black cardstock makes an incredible contrast and so I stuck with what I know. Always good advise when you're in a bind ;-)

"Stars" supplies: Camelot Main Kit, Opaque White Mister Hueys, White Gel Pen, Black Cardstock,

Oh yeah.... so I totally just scrapped a Christmas photo! The colours were perfect and I've been needing to tell this story, so forget chronological scrapping and just do it I say! It was also a perfect opportunity to use a play on words here as the story tells the time my girls were the 'stars' of our church Christmas play.

The next piece in the Main Kit that I wanted to test out was the new and exclusive Mister Hueys Ink Dauber in this lovely blue "Spring Sky" colour. I used it in a pattern of dots and splatters here in the background of this layout because I thought it would mimic the bubbles in my photo. But there's lots of other possibilities and techniques to try, some of which I've outlined in a video tutorial up on the Studio Calico blog right now.

Without a doubt the most popular Add On this month in my opinion is going to be "Excalibur". It's absolutely stocked to the gills with pretty frilly flowery bits. You can see in my video that it must have taken me 5 minutes just to open up all the glassine bags full of embellishments! Now it's designed as a Mini-Book Kit, but that doesn't mean you can't make a bunch of layouts instead if you're not in the mood to make a whole book.

Ahhemm... and now you see me scrapping an Easter picture as well? You got that right! A Christmas layout and Easter layout with the same kit! Why not! Plus.. I had to scatter those sequins somewhere ;-)

Next I want to tell you all about my favourite bits from the "Guinevere" Add On... but you'll probably work it out pretty easily if I just show you my next layout...

Yep... this Add On had me at "Jillibean Soup Chip Alphas" and I knew instantly I wanted to use them in a big title. I combined them with a Dauber-written word and the rest just flowed from there.

Following on from the popularity of last month's embellishment-only kit, this month we've got "Merlin" which is filled with woodgrain, cork and gold. Plus those Heidi Swapp Clear Alphas are the best! Have you noticed I've got a thing for a good alphabet yet?!

"Bring on the Happy" supplies: Camelot Main Kit, Excalibur Add On, Guinevere Add On, Merlin Add On

So what do you do when you've got a bunch of photos to scrap from the one event, and you're not a Project Lifer and don't feel like making a mini album? You make a double layout, whack on a page protector which can still be opened (unofficially making it a triple pager perhaps?) and include an envelope which can also still be opened so you can shove in even more memorabilia! Got all that? Good!

Check out more details for my layouts plus a more comprehensive supply list in my Creative Team Gallery here. Happy reveal day!
