The Story of My Most Favourite One

It's actually a reasonably hard question to answer, but one that we're asked quite commonly as scrapbookers, and that's the question of "how do you describe your style". I guess it's about asking what are your favourite techniques and colours or what do you include on a page that makes it uniquely and recognisably you?

This is what I cam up with....
I like my linear layers piled up on a neutral (but not completely plain) base.
I like a good quote and good typography... and sometimes I even combine the two.
And lastly, I like my colour scheme to be bright and happy, but it's usually in pastel tones.

I think this layout ticks all those boxes. I think the only big thing that's missing on this layout which is typically me is a whole bunch of journaling. But given how long the title is I thought I had already captured everything I wanted to say here.

It's a good exercise to do though. Given for me it usually takes a couple of hours to put together each page (I'm very indecisive!!) it can be a little disappointing when you're still not happy with the outcome. So I've been trying to work out what it is about the pages that I like that makes me like them. That way when I scrap in the future I can just concentrate on doing it 'my way' rather than trying to do it according to other people's style.

I don't think this will stop me from evolving as I go along, but for right now it's going to save me time. And money too.... because it helps me to decide what's worth my while buying. Have you even done this little exercise? Tell me, what did you come up with - what's your most favourite one?

The Story of Never Enough Stash

Sometimes it doesn't matter how much product you have in your stash, you just can't seem to find the perfect embellishment that you're looking for. And it's the mere fact that you've got piles upon piles of unused product in your drawers and upon shelves that you really can't justify going and buying something new, so you know you're just going to have to customise something you've already got.

That's what happened here. I had visions of using the Pink Paislee Photogram as a frame for some giant birthday numbers. But the biggest numbers I had (with the appropriate degree of funkiness) were some lovely green/blue patterned ones by Sassafras. Fabulous.... but didn't match the look I was going for.

So here's what I did.....
I coated them in gesso twice so they were now a blank white. Lucky they were a sturdy chipboard and took the gesso well. I used a waterbrush to pick up the Raspberry Distress Ink and painted back in the numbers. A black felt-tip defined them once dry, and I added some final touches with Liquid Pearls. Hope you're as impressed as I was with the result?!!! LOL!

Since I was now in the mood I went and added a few more doodles, this time with my white gel pen. And some bling never goes astray. Never.

I tell you - by this time I was on such a roll of customising my embellishments that I even went to town on the envelope that I put the card in too. I painted and glittered my Imaginarium Designs chipboard phrase and cut some October Afternoon paper pieces to make it all pretty. It was all worth it of course. The recipient was pretty pleased I have to say :-)

The Story of a Pet Desire

Do you make scrappy New Years Resolutions? I do! I'm not talking about the regular kind. I don't fool myself into thinking that if I decide on New Years to 'live healthier' or 'study harder' that it's going to last more than a couple of weeks. So I don't even bother :-) But I do like to think about what I might do differently in my crafty pursuits for the coming year.

Last year was when I decided to include my kid's artwork, the certificates and all sorts of memoribilia and ephemera into my layouts. And I think I stuck to that pretty well, and I know it will continue. This year I've decided that I'm going to branch out and try a new size. Not all the time, probably not even most of the time, but regularly I'm going to mix it up and make some 8.5 x 11" layouts. This is my first one for 2013, what do you think?

It sure gave Munchy a surprise when she saw it finished. She just kept asking "why is it so small?" and "where's the rest of it?" And I have to admit, it feels like scrapping a miniature page compared to a 12 x 12". I've already decided if I'm going to keep doing this I might need to think about printing my photos off smaller to leave more room.

Because it was all a bit foreign to me I made sure to stick to a sketch for my first attempt. Just for some guidance so I didn't feel I had to invent everything from scratch. I used the latest Scrap Friends Sketch Challenge #9 for my inspiration.

The story is about how if you ask my girls what type of pets they would like to get they always answer with the same thing, "A talking parrot and a goldfish". Which is not too unreasonable when you think about it, except that we live in a rental property in the middle of Melbourne and so can't really get pets. But at least it's better than their previous pet request which was for "a unicorn (or noonicorn as Moodles says) and a dolphin"!!

The Story of the Shooting Star

Well this is it folks, my last DT assignment for Scrap Friends - made for the fabulous colour challenge which is going on at the moment. Can you make sense of the title? It's a little tricky. It's supposed to read, "Laugh in the face of set back. Delight in your destiny". But it all got a little jumbled. Never mind.

This is the yummy colour palette I was working with. Fabulous combination as always I'm sure you would agree. Certainly these are my types of colours! I had no trouble pulling a bunch of my favourite supplies out to use on this page. I'm in love with the new Pickled Raspberry Distress Ink that I used to stamp those arrows and colour my title.
All the DT girls have gone out with a bang - there's some fabulous inspiration pieces over on the Scrap Friends blog. And the Guest DT's have really sparkled too :-) It's been marvellous designing for Scrap Friends over the last 8 months, but it's going to be just as fun taking part in the challenges as a participant now ('cos there's no way I'm missing out on using those fab sketches!)

I'm kinda still chuckling when I look at this photo. It was taken after church one week when Munchy had made a crown which says "born for such as time as this". When I asked to take a photo she instantly arranged herself into a pose. But I guess that's what you get when you've been performing hard at multiple end-of-year concerts we've had to get through participate in lately.

I'm so proud of this little girl of mine. Not only has she had staring roles in her school concert, her dance concert and the church concert, but today on her last day of school we found out she was being awarded the "Shooting Star of the Year Award" for being the most outstanding student in her class!!

She was super-excited at receiving her medal at assembly and has barely taken it off since. And I couldn't be happier, which explains the tears welling up....
