The Story of the Marilyn Munroe Quote

One of my favourite scrapping techniques right now is to layer up a whole bunch of papers and embellishments behind my photo and then add decorative details around the edges. I just love the clustered effect of so many layers of paper, but then to leave enough white space around the photo that it doesn't appear too busy.

I find it easier if I keep most of my clustered layers fairly flat, so I stick to patterned paper, labels, journalling cards, tags and the like. For this layout I combined papers and digital elements from my February Studio Calico Sugar Rush kit. I'm also really enjoying adding gold details to my layouts lately, but I think the trick is to not overdo it! These handmade gold-dipped arrows and banners from ScrAp This! were perfect for layering in.

But the real inspiration behind this layout was the Kellie Stamps March release "Magical" set. Wanting the Marilyn Munroe quote to become my main message on the page I went searching for a photo that would suit the theme. I didn't find one with twinkling stars, but I figured this one with all it's sunbeams was close enough!

The itty-bitty star stamp from the set was a really great decorative shape to stamp repeatedly around the edges of my paper layers with Color Theory Ink. It's no secret that stars are my go-to shape of choice... so I just know I'm going to be using this set a lot ;-) I specifically chose my Color Theory Ink for this 'technique' because it's really brilliant for allowing you to repeatedly stamp without reapplying the ink. It still gives you a clear image every time, but with varying intensities of the colour, so it gives you this lovely distressed ombre effect.

And with that I say goodbye to my extended Guest Designer stint at Kellie Stamps. It's been an absolute pleasure to 'work' for the gorgeous Kellie Winnell, and a great joy to use her beautifully designed products. It's certainly not going to be the last time you see her stamps on my pages ;-) Thanks for having me Kellie.

You're Beautiful

I told you recently how I had the revelation that to increase my card stash I should just make one with the scraps of the layout I've just finished making. Takes all the hard work out of making paper and embellishment choices from scratch. I've still been pretty slack in that area, but here's a card I made out of the remains of this layout I shared here.

I'm still in love with those Sassafras papers so lucky for me I've got quite the hoard to get through. But I think it's the fuzzy cloud from ScrAp This! that was the perfect finishing touch :-)

This card barely made it to my pile though..... I've already sent it off to a dear friend!

Head in the Clouds

I've got like 9 Silhouette sketch pens. I think I've used them about 3 times!
I really must get them out more. Especially when I remind myself that they can do things like this....

It's kinda like stamping but without the guess work. I mean, you know you're going to get a perfect image every time. And look at all the details on this dreamy castle in the clouds - they certainly don't lack precision.

I thought this would be a good image to use for this card I gave away for an Engagement Party. What do you think?

Soar Like Eagles

I'm sorry - but the way I'm going lately, you're going to be seeing a lot of my kids art on my scrapbook pages. I like that it's preserving another aspect of our everyday lives, and I kinda see each page now as a collaborative effort.

I'm only using pictures they drew independently. I'm not going to direct them to draw something so I can include it on a layout, that's not the point. So when I found this drawing that Munchy had stencilled the words "They will soar on wings like eagles" on I knew it would be perfect to include on a page.

I'm still getting lots of inspiration from the Pretty Little Studio sketches, and this week's was no exception.

I turned Munchy's journaling into part of my title and I augmented it slightly by adding the colours with waterpaints.

I wanted to highlight the contrast between what the future holds for these kids (one day they will soar on wings like eagles) whilst savouring the childish things they do now. And this succession of silly photos did the trick nicely!

Supplies: Using up some Sassafras papers, and those cute felt clouds are from my friend Aga's ScrAp this! shop.

Make Believe

By some lucky intervention I was assigned the "Scrap a Rainbow" challenge twice in a row at Scrapz.biz (with the change of months you see). So this time around I came up with this........

The theme is "I'm Dreaming Of......." which I chose to interpret in my layout as a dreamy, breezy, soft and whimsical design about playing and using our imagination.

And as you can see, my colours are red, pink, cream and teal. That inspiration picture is gorgeous don't you think? It's straight from my Pinterest boards.

Lots of painty layers in the background. Gee I had fun with making a creative mess here :-) Those cute fuzzy clouds are from my friend Aga's shop - I've ordered about a million more! They add a great texture and became my main teal focus on this page.

Now I really wanted to use those Pink Paislee Woodshop alphas in my title, but I've already used up all my A's, so I substituted in an upside down V instead...... could you tell?!!! *LOL* Then there's just lots of other bits and pieces I found around my very unorganised scrap room.

I just loved this tree with blossoms and bird so much on this page that it's already inspired me to make a card version. I'll share that with you real soon (I haven't photographed it yet!). But in the meantime if you want to play along with my "Scrap a Rainbow" challenge then you've got until the end of January to join in to win a Scrapz.biz voucher. Read all the details about my challenge here.
