One of the things that I absolutely adore about the Mix and Mend collection from Sassafras is that it's already so textured and embellished before you even do a thing to it! (I imagine the new Sweetly Smitten collection will be very similar and cannot wait to get it in my hands!)
And that's how this layout looks like it took me an eternity to build with all it's various layers, but in reality it came together so quickly. In fact, there's not much more here than just one page of 'Alterations' patterned paper.
Granted I did add a few extra details. Draped some Jillibean Soup bakers twine over it, and scattered some sequins.
The little funny cloud shapes are just made from the die-cut edge at the bottom of the Sass paper, and there's a couple Making Memories butterlies. And that's it!
Why do you scrapbook? For me it's all about capturing the everyday 'ordinary' moments as well as the big events. It's about remembering all those little details that might otherwise be easily forgotten, for my sake as well as for my children. And of course, I do thouroughly enjoy the creative process of it all too, and I love to create with pretty products. But ultimately it's about the memories :-)

Moxie Say What?!!!
Thank you to all the wonderfully supportive friends out there who have congratulated me on my Moxie Fab challenge win yesterday. I was in such a state of shock when I found this out. What an amazing honour to be chosen amongst so many other beautiful and talented entries.
Do you know what? I've had so much going on for me right now with work/family/scrappiness/etc that I totally forgot that I also made these two cards for another one of the Moxie Fab challenges 'Stamping with Shimmer Sprays'. So I better get them up quickly for you hey?
I used a similar technique for the background of both these cards. First I dry-embossed some watercolour paper, then painted the raised areas with different coloured shimmer sprays.
Then I gave the whole thing a good dousing with Silver Plated Maya Mist for a lovely sheen.
Just slightly different for this one. First I coloured my background watercolour paper with shimmer sprays using this technique that I've shared previously.
Then on the raised areas I 'painted' Perfect Pearls for extra glittery ooomph!
I just love 'inventing' new techniques and find the whole process quite fulfilling and fun!

All Mine
I'm working with the glorious new Upcycle collection from Cosmo Cricket this month for Handmade by Suzanne. The colours in this range are just my style, I like to call them 'vintage brights' but probably there's a better/more accurate way to describe them :-)
The first thing I did was to pop on over to the Cosmo Cricket blog to load up on some eye-candy and search for inspiration from the experts. And that's just what I got!
They've got a sketch competition going at the moment to get published in Scrapbook Trends magazine. How awesome would that be? And the sketch is something quite amazing and instantly inspiring to me.
I had this funny photo of Little Moodles with her finger in her belly-button and I was trying to come up with a title or some journaling to describe what was going on. The Man was throwing suggestions as my "You push my buttons" was the best he came up with, but didn't sound quite right! Then I spotted this tag from the Elements paper and it was just perfect for my title.
I stamped some clouds onto the Re:Design paper and layered them across the top as the sketch suggested. And when faced with a tiny area of white space that just looked too blank for my liking I headed straight to my favourite embellishment......bunting - cut from the happy polka dots on the Re:Verse paper. And just like that, the page was complete. Sounds easy doesn't it? Truth be told, it took me nearly all day :-)

Something else that Cosmo does really well is handmade flowers, so I had to include a couple here on my layout. I cut the petals from the semi-circles in the Re:Peat paper, folded them up for some dimension and cut stems from the Elements paper.

My Little Homemakers
Have you heard of the term "kit killer" before? I only recently came across this on the Studio Calico forums, and it just means someone who is able to completely finish a kit (as far as I can figure!)
Now generally I am most definitely not a kit killer. I still have what seems like oodles left over from each and every one of my Studio Calico kits. But when it comes to the DT packages Suzanne sends me, well I try and make sure I kill it then!!
So all these patterned papers on this layout is what I had left over from working with the October Afternoon Modern Homemaker range. A mish-mash of scraps that I thought might be difficult to finish off.
That is, until inspiration struck me in the form of this layout by Dina Wakley and I knew it would be so easy to just layer them all on. Slap on a quick coat of gesso and they become more like a textured background rather than strong dominating patterns.

And with a bit of free-motion stitching (with a machine that didn't seem to be cooperating at the time) I created some perfect journalling spots that become the focal point of the layout. Cool hey?!
PS. Yes, they are flowers made from cupcake wrappers. Seemed apt given the layout theme!

Tuppance a Bag
There are a few scrapping trends and fads that I adore and don't believe I'll ever get sick of. One of them is banners and bunting, and the new spin they're taking in the form of flags. Another is woodgrain pattern. Love it!
So I got this October Afternoon Seaside paper called Sandcastle in my October Studio Calico kit and I knew I wanted to use the b-side with this amazing grey woodgrain pattern as a background for a layout. But it's taken me this long to work up the courage to use it!
One of the other trends that I am digging as far as colour-combos are concerned is grey and yellow. So that's where I started with this page, but during the process it evolved a little with the addition of some vintage pink and blue tones as well.
Yes this does document the crazy story of how Little Moodles will scamper after the bread she finds on the lawn and gobble it up if the birds haven't got to it first (and if we don't stop her in time!)
See that frame and how it's filled with alphas as an embellishment? I'm really loving that idea! Can I say that?! *LOL* Told you I was thinking up new ways of using up my alpha stash :-)

A Feeling is So Much Stronger Than a Thought
One of the reasons why we scrap is to immortalise the photo right? Check out how awesome this photo is...
Yes, that's me and my Little Moodles enjoying a moment. My father-in-law is relaxing in the background, and if you look closely you can see the reflection in the glass (because this photo was taken through a window) of my mother-in-law's hands around her camera. Cool hey?!
The poster for the movie Vertigo was the inspiration behind my layout. It's this month's challenge at "From Screen 2 Scrap." If you want to join in the fun then you just need to do a project based on this poster.
Added criteria for an extra 6 Bonus Points
1) Orange background = 1pt
2) A black silohouette figure (person) on your layout = 2pts
3) A spirograph shape or swirl on your layout = 3pts
I did this bunch of hand-stitching behind my photo, which I know is technically not a spirograph, but it looks pretty similar so might just pass right?!
I put my Silhouette to good use for the title, and to cut out this girl which I stuck to a vintage button and covered in Rock Candy Crackle to make my own cameo brooch.
Come and join in the challenge at From Screen 2 Scrap. There are 8 prizes up for grabs! And if you're joining in for the first time, don't forget to tell Shazza that I sent you (I earn Brownie Points *wink*)

3 Steps
I've ended up falling in love with the Basic Grey Curio line. The colours are so rich and vibrant. So perfectly vintage botannical. And all the extra stickers and brads and lace and do-dads are pretty exciting too!
So I put quite a bit of it to good use here to make this layout about some gymnastics that recently occured in our back-yard :-) It's a pretty clean and graphic layout for me, but that's just how it turned out this time. I make no rules!
My sister came down to visit and was trying to teach Munchy how to cartwheel. Quite a difficult feat for a 4-year-old. But even more difficult was Little Moodles deciding she wanted to get in on the action too and started copying what the girls were doing.
It was hilarious to watch her stick her head on the ground and look through her chubby little legs with squeals of excitement to be one of the 'big girls'. Of course she couldn't get any further than that, but she sure had a good time trying!

Curiosity
I've got a couple more cards to share today (geez, if anyone looked at my blog right now they might think I was a dedicated cardmaker who did a bit of scrapbooking on the side, rather than the other way around!!)
Both of these cards feature some rather lovely decorative tape, which seems to be gaining a firm position in my stash. So versatile and so many colours to chose from. I want them all!
Bit bummed this beautiful butterfly didn't stamp as well as it could. But never mind, adds to the distressed and shabby look no?
Both the kraft polka-dots and the duck-egg doily border are just strips of tape. How easy to add an embellished touch!
Yes, so I just mentioned how many of these rolls of tape I have :-) Here I was able to just showcase a few of them in all thier beauty.
And talk about easy! It was so easy I felt like I needed to add more, but I restrained myself by just adding a bit of sewing for texture.
Both of these cards are for the Moxie Fab World Challenge "Get Daring with Decorative Tape" There's still time to join in.

Run To Paradise
A tutorial today on how I created the cloud background you see in the layout above, and a rundown on my design process and how this layout all came together. I'm thinking I might do this once a month (the design process steps I mean, not necessarily a tutorial) as I had a good response when I did this the first time.
Firstly I chose four colours of Distress Ink that would look good together. Using an ink applicator or sponge you first want to put a layer of colour down the very bottom edge of your cardstock. All I do is load up my applicator by dabbing it on my inkpad, then apply it to my cardstock using a sweeping upward motion.
Next, create your cloud-shaped stencil by simply drawing a freehand design on a scrap piece of paper/card and cutting it out. Easy right?!
Lay this stencil down the bottom of the card, over the green edge we've just done. And with the next colour of ink use the same technique to add a new cloudy layer. Remove the stencil and this is what you'll see.
Repeat, repeat, repeat with alternating colours until the whole background is filled. You'll want to shift around your stencil, flip it over, use the other half of the paper we cut, or cut another stencil in an effort to make it more interesting and 'random'.
At this point I decided my ink colours were too vibrant for the soft dreamy look I was going for, so I sprayed a light coverage of Studio Calico Mister Huey's in White over the whole page! This was perfect because it softened the colours and also added some opaque droplets.
As far as the actual design of the page goes, I cheated on that front by scraplifting this amazing layout by April Foster in the Studio Calico gallery. And I started with my February Studio Calico kit to make paper and embellishment choices easier for myself (although I did end up adding a few things). I commonly self-enforce kit scrapping because otherwise the choices are too overwhelming for me!
I wanted some frames around my journaling and thought these American Craft chipboard Accents would be perfect, except for one thing... the colour. But that's easy fixed with a coat of White Distress Crackle Paint.
So it's all starting to come together now. Just needed a few extra embellishments, and to fill those windows with journaling. Stick it all down finally and voila, my layout is finished!
One of my scrappy resolutions this year is to use up more of my old stash, and one particular bunch of supplies that I find is ever increasing and never diminishing is my packets of alphas. At some point you run out of viable words to make from them, and yet it's still difficult to throw them away!
So I simply stuck a strip of random letters and numbers across the top and bottom of my page for no other purpose than because it's interesting, and uses up my supply! Now I'm trying to come up with more ways for inorporating them into my layouts.
The song "Run to Paradise" by the Choir Boys always makes me think of these girls - three of my best friends. We lived together in college as we were all studying medicine or physio, but we still knew how to party, and this was one of the songs that was gauranteed to get us out of the dancefloor :-)
This is a recent photo of us together - just last month in fact, at another doctor-friend's wedding. It was so much fun, and yes, there was lots of dancing involved!
Anyway, I hope you found this interesting, and perhaps even inspiring in some small way :-) Please link me up if you ever try any of these ideas out!
