Clean and Simple?

I admire people who do layouts that are minimilistic, and I do love the clean look.
It's just that, well, whenever I try to emulate it I seem to fail dismally! I cannot for the life of me stop adding more embellishments or journalling, or decorations, or patterns or just....... more!

I totally scraplifted this layout from a digital one by Karla. You can see her beautiful, serene, lovely, almost monotone layout here. And it seemed like it was going to be so easy to recreate. Well, I got the elements all in the right places - but it just lacks the ooomph that hers had. Oh well. Learning, learning, learning :-)

On the plus side, I did get to use this lovely Basic Grey paper for the background that I've been hoarding for the longest time. I knew it would be perfect for a 'boy' layout! And I teemed it with my January Kreatorville kit and some jute and called it done :-)

No paint, no glimmermist, no layers, no doodling, and hardly any journalling.
I love it when other people do it, I just don't think it's me :-)

  1. I think you are far too hard on yourself! This is a great lo- love the paper combo you used- and while this is cleaner than your usual, it still has 'you' shining through! :)

  3. This is FABULOUS! You are fearless with color and patterns. It all fits together so well. (so wish I had all those papers! Sweet!) But yeah, I love it! I think it's cool to go out of your own box and try different styles every now and again. It's good for the scrapbooking soul ^_^
Really like your art honey and thanks so much for the love

  4. I think its awesome that my eyes goes first toward your photograph, and then to each other element. Which I would think is the goal of a clean and simple scrapbook layout? Plus, its a good choice to go clean and simple on a masculine layout, so I think you were quite successful in your attempt!

  5. My LOs are pretty simple (mainly because I'm more of a Left brainer) but I think as long as your LO is an expression of who you are and how you feel about your subjects, then they are great! I love all of your work, Natalie! This is no exception!
