It's Raining, It's Pouring

I've not used a lot of sketches in the past, but it seems I'm on a roll with them at the moment.
Usually my interpretation of sketches is so 'strict' that it doesn't feel like I'm being very creative. So I'm trying to push the boundaries a little and just have fun with them. I'm making small amounts of progress.

So here's the May sketch at A Million Memories designed by Kat.

And here's what I did with it.

Talk about fun!! First, I got to use up all my leftover Jillibean Soup corrguated kraft alphas by randomly sticking them down in the half-circle shape from the sketch.
Then I painted over the top of them all........... with my fingers!! Which freaked The Man out a little bit, he's not good with paint at the best of times, so when I waved my hands under his face when I was finished he didn't respond well :)

I still can't seem to stop using my October Afternoon Thrift Shop and Fly a Kite papers, so here they are again. But I was pretty chuffed with myself when I came up with the idea of cutting the blue doily paper into the cloud shapes from the sketch. And I cut the rain drops out of the fabulous Ice-Cream paper.

I wanted this to be a really textural piece, so I put on the ribbon, buttons and fabric scrap too. You might think this is funny (I do) but I actually got my inspiration for the colours and textures for this page from what Mat Preston was wearing on MasterChef last night! You can find inspiration anywhere if you're looking hard enough I reckon :)

This isn't quite what he was wearing but it's pretty close.
I was inspired by the texture and colour of his linen jacket for the background, and then the pale yellow and blue for my embellishments.

Feel free to laugh.
I am!!

Scroll down to the posts below for all the giveaways. And I've got a big announcement to share tomorrow (except that I'm off playing real doctors all weekend so I hope it'll be up on time)

  2. I love that your were inspired by Masterchef - but not in the food department! I guess you really can find inspiration all around you - you just have to open your eyes.
