Modern Homemaker Cards

Starting with the shape stickers in the October Afternoon Modern Homemaker collection it was all too easy to whip up this set of retro cards.

I don't think I could imagine living in the 50's where a woman's place really was in the home. Where she actually did derive her pleasure from being a good Homemaker.

Although I have to admit that quite regularly (particularly on high stress days) when I'm at work I do pine for the days when I was a stay-at-home-mum.

But I'm not sure I could deal with this side of the equation. I expect (or at least hope!) that The Man will pull his weight around the house and do a bit of cleaning and cooking and kid-entertaining.

All the papers you see here are from the Modern Homemaker collection too. Aren't they just fabulous?! I am in love with October Afternoon... can't wait to see what they've got in store for CHA.

Passion

I am loving the inspiration over at "Etsy Inspired Challenges" this week. I made this slightly cheeky wedding card to play along.

I used this lovely necklace from Modern Bird's etsy to inspire my design.

I love all the smooth lines and clean design of her necklaces. So I did a similar thing with the focus on this smooth, albeit glittery branch on my card.

Two of my doctor friends are getting married. Thier wedding invitations came wrapped up in an old Mills and Boon romance novel! I tore a (raunchy) page straight from it for the base of the card. And hence the sentiment is "passion" rather than something slightly more romantic. I know they'll appreciate it :-)

Etsy Continues to Inspire

I couldn't help but play along with Etsy Inspired Challenges again.
And since it's that silly season, I've made a Christmas card.

Soft and subtle hey?
It's the kind of card that was actually ridiculously easy to make. So easy that I continue to question whether I've done enough to it.

I added some bling, but perhaps I should have done some ribbon down the bottom, or a sentiment or something? Oh well, never mind because it still makes me smile when I see it :-)

Putu Princess Escapes, which is the Etsy shop we're drawing inspiration from in the Etsy Inspired Challenge this week.

I made this Christmas card:

Using some of the lovely Jovial collection papers from Basic Grey. The reindeer is cut from one of the papers called 'Nordic' which was my absolute favourite from the collection and I begged Suzanne to include it in my DT kit this month!

All the other details on this card were created using stuff from the HBS shop too. It's a Green Tara flower, Prima lace, and a small brad from the Jovial collection. And have you heard much about the Tattered Angels Glimmer Glaze? I hadn't. But I received some in my kit and so I had a grand-old-time with it. It's pretty cool. It comes in a little bottle with a built in brush. It looks (and smells!) a lot like nail polish. It's quite a thin consistency and has more of a subtle shimmer to it and of course comes in a range of beautiful colours. I used my 'Cowboy' Glimmer Glaze around the edges of my paper to give it a faux-burnt look :-)

Oh, and did I forget to mention that I was using this shirt from the Etsy shop as my inspiration? Mainly the colours really!

Etsy Inspired

It's been a while since I played along with Etsy Inspired Challenges so it's about time I gave it another go!

I made this card after checking out all the wonderful pieces from Lemon Kissed's shop and choosing these beautiful earrings to inspire me. 

I interpreted the earrings into white ruffles (which I then promptly altered to cream with pink highlights) and added some 'filigree' butterflies to top it off. 

A very girly, soft, romantic wedding card, that's for sure!

And a little detail inside too :-)

Falling for you

I created a quick card last night after being prompted to play along again with Etsy Inspired Challenges. The Etsy shop this week is My Zoetrope, and amongst the 91 different prints and cards on offer I found this one which struck a chord:

Maybe because we've just finished Autumn ourselves, or maybe because I love the colour palette, or maybe just because it's soooooo cute!

I made this:

And I know I said before that there was no possible way I could make any more projects from my Kreatorville November kit (my all time fave - although you should see what the postman delivered to me today!!!!!), it seems I lied! Using up the tiniest scraps, and teaming it up with a few extras I managed to pull together this card.

I was wondering whether I should add to the sentiment on this card so that it read 'falling for you'? It might make a good Valentine's card. But perhaps I'll just let the leaves speak for themselves. Plus given we don't call it Fall but Autumn here in Australia it might seem like a bit of a sell-out?

Hhhmmmm.......

How beadyful

How Beadyful is the etsy shop you needed to pick something from to inspire you this week at Etsy Inspired Challenges. Given they've got over 250 things for sale, the scope is vast!

I ended up choosing these pretty little button earrings as my inspiration piece.

And made a wedding card that's been on my 'to do' list for a week or more.

I used another one of my Christmas papers for the background (can't tell can you?!) by Little Yellow Bicycle, and cut the butterflies from a Making Memories glitter paper. It's so pretty.

It was too hard to cut the butterfly antennae from the paper so I ended up making my own decorative pins. I've got plenty of brand name pins, but they were all a little big for what I wanted. So here's what I did.......

I gathered all my supplies, which was simply all my pretty beads, some ordinary pins and Dimensional Magic (or another fast drying strong clear glue).

The easiest way I found to assemble it was to choose what beads you want and thread them all onto the pin first. Then put a small dollop of glue at the head of the pin and slide the first bead up into it. If you've got more than one bead like I do in the picture above then add another drop of glue under the first bead and slide the second bead up and so on. Use the smallest amount of glue possible so it's not dripping all over the place :-)

And there you have it. Your own set of unique and customisable decorative pins. Very easy.

Inspired

I'm just scraping in, with only hours to go on the current Etsy Inspired Challenge.
Out of all the beautiful pendants from Sunshyne Silverware, I chose the colours out of this one to base my card on.

And I ended up making this simple but striking card:

I feel justified in saying that above comment because I totally lifted the design from my friend Karen B and her card here. And I think if you're going to lift someone's card design then you really should chose someone who just made the top 20 in the Papercrafts Connection Gallery Idol competition! Congrats Karen!!

But I'll tell you someone who's not just scraping in, and that's Kelly (one of my fellow DT-ers from the XOXO Girls). Can you believe she has already entered a layout for my Jolly June Yellow Challenge!! I only posted in yesterday!! Here's what she's done:
